Description
Gustav Klimt is the great inspiration for this sensual and erotic shunga painting by Senju (Matti Sandberg). As Japan opened up to the west during the second half of the 1800´s its unique and powerful art began to rejuvenate its European sister. Out of this was born wonders like Impressionism and Art Nouveau/ Jugend Stil. The works produced in Europe during this very inspiring period in the history of art filtered back into Japan and gave birth to a symbiosis which is ever ongoing and progressing.
Senju wanted to celebrate not only Gustav Klimt, one of his favorite artists in history, but also show this symbiosis.
